Tutoring Sabbatical

Life happens. It comes at you fast. As you’re living, you get into a groove; you get used to the way life is happening. Things change and shift, and you move right along with it; sometimes forgetting to check in with yourself. Recently, I’ve found myself in this exact spot. I’ve been running E. Denise Tutoring Services and it has been wonderful. Helping young scholars “get it” is something that never gets old for me. I even went back to one of my first loves this year and started cooking again – a shift if you will – and have rolled with the punches. This has added a level of joy and excitement to my life, too. In all of this, what I haven’t done is do an internal check to see how I’m doing. Major life changes have happened, and I haven’t acknowledged or felt them – that’s not helpful or healthy.

My current and former clients will tell you that my passion for children and teaching burns fiercely. Prior to starting E. Denise Tutoring Services, I was a classroom teacher and I loved it. I haven’t had a full-time teaching position in a long time, and last week I was fortunate enough to be hired for a new teaching position. It was my intent to continue tutoring a couple evenings a week alongside my new position. That all changed when I tragically lost my favorite uncle; the same day I received the job offer. This caused me to stop in my tracks and realize that I am not okay. I hadn’t done any self-reflection with other changes that happened in my life. This said, I need to take some time away from tutoring to work on me. Don’t worry, I’ll be back. (add smile emoji here)

This change takes effect on August 30, 2021. It is my intent to return the week of January 18, 2022. Any client who has money on the books for their scholar is entitled to a full refund, or you can simply leave the funds in your account and use them when I return. Thank you in advance for understanding, and I encourage you all to stop, breathe, and take an inward look. Make sure you are being honest with where you are mentally and emotionally. Once you do that, take the necessary steps to ensure that you are wholly whole. You can’t pour from an empty cup, friends. Excuse me while I go and refill.
